DAVID WATSON. REST IN PEACE.

CONDOLENCES FROM MORPETH CHESS CLUB MEMBERS AND THE WIDER NORTHUMBERLAND CHESS COMMUNITY

“Can only echo all these lovely tributes to a True Gentleman of Chess of Northumberland . He will be sadly missed by all that knew him.”

“I'd just like to say how much we have to thank David for his dedication to Morpeth chess club for such a long time. He will be very much missed and it has been a real pleasure to have known him, with his cheery demeanour and ready smile, since I started playing chess in the North East many years ago. R.I.P. David”

“Really sad news”

“Dave was a lovely guy and over the years put a lot back into local chess, a really sad loss”

“So very sad, David was a real gentleman and will be missed by all. David along with Les were the backbone of Morpeth chess club. My thoughts are with his family, God bless.”

“I would agree with all the comments made about the late David Watson. He was a gentle man in all senses of the word. Morpeth Chess Club and the NCA were fortunate to benefit from all his contributions. He will be missed by all the chessplayers of the north east.”

“He will be missed at our chess club, RIP David.”

“Rest in peace, we will miss you.”

“Please pass my sympathies along to Dave's family, he has been part of the chess scene since I started to play in the early 90s and I have always had the utmost respect for Dave. A very sad day for the Northern chess community.”

“That is very sad news.  I knew Dave from 1985 and he was the first person I played at the chess club and will never be forgotten.  He was also the bank manager at the bank that gave me a loan in 1989, allowing me to go to Moscow and ultimately play Gary Kasparov, at a time when I had very little income.  For that I will always be grateful: as well as for all the lifts over the years and, of course, friendship.  He always seemed to know when something was wrong and had a listening non-judgemental ear.”

“Very sad news. David will be missed by everyone.”

“Really really sad. A lovely bloke. I think I must have known him since first moving up here in 1986.  I cannot remember seeing him angry and, as you say, he seemed a natural conciliator. A really lovely bloke.”

“Very sad news - He will be missed by us all.”

“I have nothing but good and positive memories of David as a person and of everything he did for the club.”

“I started the same night as Dave in 1982 and he has been a friend for 41 years and such a lovely man and I feel devastated. I don't think you could find a friendlier man and a better organiser. The Northumberland Chess League and Morpeth chess club have all benefitted from his wisdom over the years. At this sad time my thoughts are with Joan and Dave's three children.”
